Anna Averkiou to be Lead Trainer on New Radio Journalism courses 

Launched by The Radio Academy and the Press Association, the Introduction to Radio Journalism course will take place on three consecutive Saturdays from January 16 and an Advanced Radio Journalism Skills course on three Saturdays from February 6.

The pilot schemes are part-funded by Creative Skillset through the Skills Investment Fund.

Chris Burns, Chair of The Radio Academy, said: “I am really excited about these courses, as hopefully it will either help people get into the industry or return to it. It‘s for those who maybe want to refresh their skills after a break, put people in a better place to apply for jobs or it might help decide whether they want to commit themselves to a longer course.”

Tony Johnston, head of Press Association Training, said: “We are delighted to join forces with The Radio Academy to offer the highest quality training to those seeking to raise their level of skills.

“We expect demand for the courses to come from a wide variety of individuals including those already employed in the sector and those wanting to establish themselves in this field.”

Courses will take place at the Press Association’s head office in London Victoria and at a central London radio studio.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. It is hoped that the Creative Skillset-funded pilots will enable further courses to be offered throughout the year.

Anna Averkiou will draw on her many years' experience working with BBC Local and World Service Radio.  She will be joined by other industry experts who are  volunteering their time to provide sessions and input onto the courses.

This project has been partly supported by HM Government with Employer Ownership funding.
