Rising to the LionHeart Challenge

Anna Averkiou has been invited to be a judge at the regional finals of the 2012 *LionHeart Challenge, a national schools business and enterprise competition designed to encourage young people to think about careers in business and marketing. Lionheart Challenge Logo

Teams of ten Year 10 pupils from schools across the London, South East and South West Regions of England will compete against each other to put together a business plan and a realistic product solution to get it to market in a unique, high impact, Enterprise Challenge Experience.

The theme of the Challenge is kept ‘under wraps’ until the starter whistle blows – but it will be one that has real economic significance, inspires the pupils and stretches their abilities to the limit. Past examples include 'Maximising the Safety of Military Personnel in Combat'; 'Anti-Terrorism Products' and 'Energy Performance Maximisation Products'.

The teams then have one Working Day to complete the following:
• Conceptualise, Design & Create an innovative Product/Service with commercial/economic potential
• Compile a Masterplan Business Proposal detailing the Product or Service, Production, Marketing, Management team, Financials and Research
• Produce a Mini-Powerpoint Presentation
• Provide a ‘Virtual’ IT Mock-Up which communicates their Idea
• A Formal 3-Minute Presentation to an eminent Panel of Regional Judges in front of an invited Guest Audience

CIMGreater LondonRGB300dpiAnna will be one of two judges representing the Chartered Institute of Marketing Greater London Region which supports the LionHeart Challenge. They will tour the competing teams and question them about their products, progress and the whole development process.

At the end of the day the teams will present their business ideas to the Panel of Regional Judges consisting of experts from a broad spectrum of Industry and Commercial backgrounds. Marks will be given for various criteria including the interpretation of the Challenge theme, teamwork, innovation, creativity, commercial potential of their idea and time management.

The regional finals will take place at the prestigious Harrow School on Wednesday 11 July. The winners will go on to compete at The LionHeart Challenge National Finals in Lancaster in November 2012.

*The LionHeart Challenge is a Nationwide Enterprise Programme, acclaimed by Sir Howard Davies MBE (former Director of The London School of Economics & Political Science) and was chosen as a National Flagship by the National Learning & Skills Council for Enterprise. During the last few years the Programme has been delivered to over 250,000 pupils up and down the nine regions of the country.
