Invitation to judge AIBs

AIB-logo-final-colours-180914Anna Averkiou has been invited to be a member of the judging panel for factual content at this year’s Association for International Broadcasting Awards.

The annual competition is now in its 13th year and has attracted far more entries than ever before with many new broadcasters and production companies sharing their work. Entries must be submitted by June 30, 2017 – details are available in the AIB entry book.

AIB Chief Executive, Simon Spanswick, said: “We are delighted that the AIBs are internationally recognised and respected by programme makers, editors, journalists and executives. We are keen to ensure that we can showcase the most work to our jury and to the wider media community in the run up to the awards evening, the awards ceremony itself and at the Masterclass the following day. We want to help programme makers share their work among colleagues, and to share their expertise and ideas, too.”

This year sees a new AIB Impact Award (see P15) for an entry in any category that has delivered a significant and measurable impact on an individual, group or community.

Judging will take place in September. Anna Averkiou said: “I’m delighted to be invited back again to help judge what is now one of the most influential and respected contests in broadcasting. The innovation, creativity and high-calibre of journalism demonstrated by so many of the entries from all over the world are reassuring in the current media landscape of “fake news” and general mistrust of media outlets.”

The AIBs 2017 gala evening will take place in London on Wednesday 1 November 2017 at LSO St Luke’s. The evening will be hosted by Matthew Amroliwala, presenter of Global, on BBC World News. There will be a Masterclass with leading industry experts the following day.
